How to transfer your domain name to Domein Direct

The transfer process is simple and fully automated. Just follow these six steps.

Back up your email and share your hosting details (we move your website)

Do this first of all — before you request your EPP code or cancel your hosting. Once the hosting is cancelled, you often lose access to your current environment.

  • Back up your email yourself: archive your important messages in your mail program, or make a backup via export. We have no access to your mailbox.
  • Share your hosting details with us via a help ticket: that way we can move your website (regular site or WordPress) for free. If you no longer have access, we can't make a copy either — so share the login details in good time.

Request the transfer code from your current provider

Ask your current provider for the transfer code — also known as the EPP code or authorisation code. This is a unique code you need to start the transfer. Don't forget to cancel your existing services with them too.

💡 A .nl domain is moved quickly. For other extensions such as .com or .eu it can take a few days, depending on the registry.

Enter the domain and authorisation code

Go to the transfer form at Domein Direct, enter your domain name and fill in the transfer code in the "Authorization Code" field. That tells our system you are the rightful owner and the transfer may start.

What is a transfer code (EPP code)?
A transfer code, also called an EPP code or authorisation code, is a unique code you request from your current provider. You need it to start the transfer of your domain name. Without this code a domain name cannot be moved to another registrar.
Does my website stay online during the transfer?
Yes. Your domain name and website stay reachable during the transfer process. The DNS settings remain active until everything has been fully moved to Domein Direct.
How long does a domain name transfer take?
A .nl domain is usually moved quickly. Other extensions such as .com, .eu or .be can take a few days, depending on the registry that manages the extension.
Is the migration service really free?
Yes, the migration service is free with a Domein Direct hosting plan. You fill in the request form and our team helps you move your website as quickly as possible.
Do I need to cancel my services with my current provider?
Yes. Remember to cancel your services with your current provider before or while you start the transfer. Your current provider also gives you the transfer code you need for the process.
Which extensions can I transfer to Domein Direct?
You can transfer hundreds of extensions, including .nl, .com, .eu, .be and .de. Domein Direct supports more than 100 domain extensions. Check during the transfer process whether your extension is supported.
