A domain name is the address of your website and email — for example yourcompany.com. You register it in your name so no one else can use it. You then link your website and email addresses to the domain name.
Which domain extensions can I register?
You can choose from 100+ extensions such as .nl, .com, .eu, .be and .de. The term is up to you: 1 to 10 years. See all available extensions and prices on the pricing page.
Can I register my domain name privately?
Yes. With privacy protect (private registration) your personal details are not visible in the public WHOIS database. You remain the legal owner of the domain name. Available for all extensions.
How do I link my domain to my website or shop platform?
You link a domain via nameservers or DNS records (A, AAAA, CNAME, TXT, MX). With hosting from Domein Direct the domain is linked automatically. For external platforms such as Shopify, Wix or WordPress.com you set the right DNS records from your account.
Can I forward a domain name to another URL?
Yes. With a forwarding plan visitors to your domain name are automatically sent on to another URL — useful if you own several domain names or want to point one to your social media.
How do I transfer my domain name to Domein Direct?
Request a transfer code (EPP/authorisation code) from your current provider. Enter it during the transfer process on our site. Your domain name stays online throughout the transfer. A .nl domain name is usually transferred within the hour.

Which web hosting plans are available and how do they differ?
All plans include free SSL, unlimited email addresses, daily backups and unlimited data traffic.
What is included with web hosting as standard?
Every plan includes: a free SSL certificate, daily backups, unlimited email addresses, spam and virus filtering, a hosting panel (ISPConfig), PHP 7 & 8, Memcache, 8 CPU cores on NVMe SSD, DDoS protection and 24/7 monitoring.
Can I upgrade to a bigger plan mid-term?
Yes. You can upgrade at any time from your account — you only pay the difference for the remaining term. Downgrading is possible at the next renewal date.
Is there a free migration service?
Yes. When you order a WordPress plan the migration service is included free of charge. For other CMS platforms our webmaster support can help you out. Your site stays online throughout the migration.
Where are the servers located?
Our servers are housed in energy-efficient data centres in the Netherlands and Germany. They run on 100% renewable energy and are fully GDPR-compliant. We manage our hosting entirely in-house.
Email
Which email plans are available?
There are 4 email plans — Starter, Professional, Business and Enterprise — with increasing storage. All plans include POP3/IMAP/SMTP, SSL, DKIM/DMARC support, a spam filter, webmail and daily backups. See the plans on the email page.
Is webmail included and how do I access it?
Yes. Webmail is included and available at yourdomain.com/webmail (or via the server URL if an active forward is in place). You can choose Roundcube or OX App Suite as your webmail client.
Which ports do I use for my email settings?

How do I set up DKIM and DMARC?
DKIM and DMARC are email authentication standards that help your emails arrive safely and avoid being marked as spam. You set them up via the DNS settings of your domain name in your account. Our helpdesk has detailed instructions for the correct records.
Ordering & payment
How can I pay?
You can pay via iDEAL, credit card (Mastercard/Visa), Apple Pay, SOFORT, Bancontact, KBC/CBC, Belfius Direct Net, PayPal or direct bank transfer. Payments are processed by Mollie.
Are my services renewed automatically?
Yes, automatic renewal is enabled by default. You always receive an email well before the renewal date with the current status. Don't want to renew a service? Switch off automatic renewal in your account — at least 1 month before the expiry date.
Can I cancel a service mid-term?
Hosting can be cancelled mid-term via your account (outside the notice period). For domain names: switch off automatic renewal at least 1 month before the expiry date. Subscription fees already paid are not refunded, unless stated otherwise in the terms and conditions.
How do I receive my invoice?
After every payment you automatically receive an invoice by email. All invoices are also available in your account under "Invoices". All prices exclude VAT unless stated otherwise.

What is webmaster support and what does it cost?
Webmaster support is technical assistance for anything beyond the standard service — think of installing software, fixing a hacked site, DNS settings or moving a website. Cost: €39.95 excl. VAT per half hour. You always receive an estimate of time and cost in advance.
Do I need technical knowledge to get started?
No. From your account you manage domains, DNS, hosting and email in one clear overview. If it still feels complicated, webmaster support is available — no subscription required, you only pay when you need help.
What should I do if my website has been hacked?
Contact us right away via a help ticket. Our webmaster support can run a cyber security scan, find and restore infected files, and trace backdoors to prevent it from happening again. Cost: €145.00 excl. VAT (one-off, including changes to prevent new hacks).
