Domein Direct

Below are the most important terms in brief. The complete text can be found in the full terms and conditions; in the event of any discrepancy, that version prevails.

Publishing your website

  • The content of the website you publish must comply with Dutch law.
  • Hacking activities or any other intrusion into the servers of Domein Direct or third parties is not permitted.
  • Sending large volumes of unsolicited email (spam) is not permitted.
  • In the event of a violation or an abuse report, the site will be taken offline.
  • We make a backup of our systems.
  • You are responsible yourself for activating the backup for your website and email.

Data traffic fair use policy

A fair use policy applies to this subscription. Normal use is included. In the event of exceptionally high or improper use that may noticeably affect network performance or the service provided to others, we may contact you and take appropriate measures, such as temporarily limiting speed or (in consultation) recommending a suitable subscription.

What is data traffic?

Data traffic is related to the size and the popularity of your website. The volume of data traffic is the total amount of files (in megabytes) requested from your website per month.

An example: an average page of your website is 500 kb in size (including images). Suppose an average visitor views 5 pages and you have 1,000 website visitors per month. The website then generates 500 × 5 × 1,000 = 2,500,000 KB per month, or 2,500 MB of data traffic per month.

Payment and agreement

Domein Direct works with real-time registration and automated order processing.

Payments are processed online by Mollie (with a choice of iDEAL, credit card, Apple Pay, bank transfer, SOFORT Banking, Bancontact, KBC/CBC, Belfius Direct Net), via PayPal or by direct transfer through your bank.

  • On the payment page you agree to the terms and conditions. This constitutes your digital signature to the agreement.
  • The order is processed immediately and becomes active upon receipt of payment. Bank transfers take at least 2 days to process.

Anyone who has not renewed will lose their domain name, email, website, server and additional services.

As a result of inflation, Domein Direct is entitled to implement an annual price increase equal to the rate of change in the preceding billing period of the “Index Zakelijke en ICT Dienstverlening” (Business and ICT Services Index). This indexation is published annually by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

You will receive an invoice by email for every transaction, and you can also consult it later via My Account.

Renewal and end of term

On the My Account page you will find information about the term of your domain name and the associated services. Before the end of the term you will receive an email regarding the renewal of the domain name. If you have indicated that you do not wish to renew the domain name, the service will be stopped 7 days before the end of the term.

A domain name and hosting can be cancelled up to 30 days before the end of the term, or up to the moment you have received an invoice for the service. Interim cancellation can be done via My Account. All agreements are stopped 7 days before the expiry date and are not renewed automatically if you have switched off “automatic renewal”.

Within the quarantine period of 40 days you can still change your mind and reclaim the domain name. Additional costs apply. Verification of your identity is based on the email address used when registering your domain name. In the event of abuse or non-compliance with Dutch law, the account will be temporarily frozen and you will not be able to take any action.

Transferring

Domain names registered at a promotional rate cannot be transferred away during the first year. If a domain name is nevertheless transferred within the first year, we reserve the right to charge the discount previously granted on the first-year registration costs after all. This amount will be added to the final invoice.

A domain name can be transferred from 30 – 60 days after the registration date and up to 1 month before the expiry date; outside that period we do not issue transfer codes. Transferring your domain name is equivalent to cancelling with immediate effect, and the associated services will therefore no longer be accessible. Anonymous domain names (privacy protect) cannot be transferred; they must first be put in your own name. After this change you cannot transfer for 60 days. Domain names that have had malware, virus infections, spam or abuse reports cannot be transferred during the term.

Customer obligations

  • Keeping details up to date: the customer is obliged to keep their details complete, correct and up to date. With ID Protect / anonymous registration, these details are not used for the registration of a domain name and/or services, but are replaced by the company details of Anonymous Registration.
  • Payment obligation: the customer is obliged to meet the payment obligation when placing an order or renewing. If the customer fails to meet this obligation, the domain names will be placed in quarantine and hosting will be discontinued. The costs of reactivation (removal from quarantine) and/or restoring a backup are borne by the customer.
  • Declaration of consent: the customer agrees to the request for immediate application/registration of the domain name and waives the right of withdrawal once the services have been delivered.
  • System configuration: the customer must configure their systems and programs in such a way that the security and availability of the systems of Domein Direct are not impaired.
  • Duty to report: DDoS attacks and hacking attempts must be reported to support@domein-direct.nl.

If the client fails to comply with the terms and conditions, domein-direct.nl is entitled to take over the holdership of the domain name, including any associated services.
